B Prabha has immortalized the fisherwomen of Mumbai in her paintings. Her representation of these simple, rustic women with their distinctive hairstyles and bright saris is characteristic of her style. Her earlier works were modern, freely rendered paintings. In the 1960s she started painting a wide range of subjects, from landscapes to social issues like droughts, hunger and homelessness using oils as her medium.
